I haven't been posting anything for about a week now since I was commissioned a double portrait and it has taken me much time. Now that the portrait is almost finished I felt I could enjoy painting one of my small fruit ones.

It is my Mom's creamer. I have known it since I was a child.When I was in Georgia, I was dreaming of painting this creamer some day when I am back in Russia. Today, my dream has come true and here it is - the creamer and a mandarin.

May's Gifts

 I am happy to share the exciting news - since my husband needs to collect data for his dissertation, we are going back to Russia for a year or so. We are moving in the end of May. I am so excited about the prospect of finding new inspirations for my small paintings in the new environment! It might take a little longer for my future paintings to reach their buyers in the US - probably about two weeks - but I hope it won't be a problem and they will understand. These two years in Georgia have been a wonderful experience for me and my family!

Spring Fruit

While I was painting these fruit, a nightingale was singing outside my window, reminding me that it's spring now. Fruit are traditionally associated with Autumn but nowadays we can get fruit all the year round, even in Spring - hence the title.

Every time I sit down at my easel and stare at my 6"x6" gessoboard, I wonder how I am going to fit all of my still life set on that teeny tiny platform. I start painting, and as a result, my composition on the gessoboard always turns out bigger than the one on the table. All the objects that I've painted are larger in size and not how I planned them to be. So, my point is that I am probably going to try moving to bigger sized gessoboards and make more out of my brushstrokes. Painting on a bigger size will not make my details seem as big, and I think I have a tendency of painting large, so I'll experiment with other sizes and see where that leads me. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Citrus Delight

This certain clementine has given up a fifth of her edible self for humans to eat. :)
I just got some gessoboards 5"x5", a new size for me. I have never tried it before, and 6"x6" always seemed like a TINY size for me to paint on. But now, even more miniature!
I like that new size; it's a new experience for me. I've found that painting miniature is a "delight" for my liking. Oh, by the way, they are delicious!!
